UHAS 2018 ACCESS COURSE

It is announced for the information of prospective Applicants and the general public that E-vouchers for Access Course for 2018 are now on sale at GH¢ 220.00

SCHOOL OF ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCES ACCESS – HO CAMPUS (From June, 2018 to July, 2018)

Access Course in the School of Allied Health Sciences is an eight (8) week programme to enable interested applicants with Certificate in Medical Laboratory Technology; Radiologic Technology; or certificate holders in Audiology and Speech Therapy as well as certificate holders in other health related programmes from accredited institutions to enroll onto degree programmes (regular / Sandwich).

Applicants with FGPA of not less than 2.5 with a minimum of three (3) years certified working experience, will enter degree programmes through an eight (8) week Access Course in the School of Allied Health Sciences.

Successful Candidates from the Access Course MAY be required to pass a selection interview and enroll at Level 200 (Sandwich i.e. 6-Long Vacations) or Full-time (regular) for those who show evidence of having obtained a study leave approval.
Programmes on offer upon a successful completion of the Access Course are:

  • Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences
  • Bachelor of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences
  • Bachelor of Medical Imaging

The deadline for completion of the online application form for Access Course in School of Allied Health Science is 30th April, 2018.

SCHOOL OF NURSING AND MIDWIFERY ACCESSS COURSE – HO CAMPUS (Between May 2018 & July, 2018)

Access Course in the School of Nursing and Midwifery is an eight (8) week programme to enable auxiliary Nurses, Midwives and Community Health Nurses, who already hold certificates and Auxiliary Identification Number (AIN) or Professional Identification Number (PIN) in Post-basic Midwifery from the Nursing and Midwifery Council (N&MC) Ghana to enroll onto degree programmes (Sandwich) in the School of Nursing and Midwifery. The point of entry will be Level 100 / 200 depending on applicant’s professional background and choice of programme.

Only Successful Candidates from the Access Course will be offered the opportunity to apply for their desired degree programmes (sandwich).

Programmes on offer upon a successful completion of the Access Course are:

  • Bachelor of Nursing
  • Bachelor of Midwifery
  • Bachelor of Public Health Nursing

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • All applicants MUST hold a certificate accredited by Nursing and Midwifery Council, Ghana
  • Applicants MUST hold certificate(s) in any of the following: Nurse-Assistant Clinical (NAC)/Health Assistant Clinical (HAC); Nurse-Assistant Preventive (NAP)/Community Health Nurse (CHN); and post NAC/HAC; NAP/CHN Midwifery.
  • Applicants MUST have practised in their chosen fields for three (3) years or more.
  • Crossing over from one programme to another (e.g. General Nursing, Public Health Nursing and Midwifery) is allowed but the point of entry is Level 100 instead of Level 200.
  • Health Assistant Clinical (HAC) / Nurse Assistant Clinical (NAC) applicants will progress in General Nursing programme and write the Nursing and Midwifery Council (N&MC) Licensing Examination to be qualified as Registered General Nurses (RGN). The entry point is Level 200.
  • Community Health Nurses (CHN) / Nurse Assistant Preventive (NAP) applicants will progress in Public Health Nursing programme and write the Nursing and Midwifery Council (N&MC) Licensing Examination to be qualified as Registered Community Nurse (RCN). The entry point is Level 200.
  • Post NAP/CHN and post NAC/HAC Midwifery applicants will progress in Midwifery programme and will not have to write the Nursing and Midwifery Council (N&MC) examination. Entry point is Level 200.
  • All applicants will be required to provide their Auxiliary Identification Number (AIN) and Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) certificates instead of their transcripts.

The deadline for completion of the online application form for Access Course in School of Nursing and Midwifery is 30th April, 2018.

SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH – HOHOE CAMPUS (Between March, 2018 & April, 2018)

Access Course in the School of Public Health is an eight (8) week programme to enable certificate or diploma holders with GPA below 2.0 in Public Health and other related areas to enroll onto degree programmes (Sandwich) in the School of Public Health, University of Health and Allied Sciences, Hohoe Campus. The point of entry will be Level 200.

Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSc. PH) with the following options:

  • Disease Control
  • Health Information
  • Health Promotion
  • Nutrition

Entry Requirements

GHANAIAN APPLICANTS

  • A holder of a certificate from Ministry of Health and Ghana Health Service training schools, Ministry of Local Government institutions and other accredited health training schools who have practised for three years or more may apply. These shall include: Community Health Nurses, Auxiliary Nurses and Midwives, Health Assistants (Clinical) certificate holders working as Environmental Health Officers, certificate or diploma holders working as Environmental Health Assistants, Nutrition Officers, Disease Control Officers and Health Information Officers as well as Officers in closely related fields such as Statistics, Sociology and Demography.
  • A holder of a diploma in any Health Care discipline or Environmental Health discipline with a minimum FGPA of 1.50 or above who has served in a Health Care position or an Environmental Health position for three years or more may apply.
  • A holder of certificate / diploma awarded by recognised teacher training colleges, who has taught for three years or more, may apply.
  • The duration of the course is eight (8) weeks.

INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS

  • Holders of Certificates/Diplomas in any of the health care disciplines or environmental health disciplines and related fields who have practised for three years or more may apply.
  • Evidence of proficiency in English Language will be required in the case of applicants from non-English speaking countries.
  • In addition, international applicants must satisfy the professional entry requirements determined by the relevant professional body.
