UEW Staff of CoLANGE Urged to seek for Grants

Staff of the College of Languages Education (CoLANGE), Ajumako of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has been urged to write for grants to support research and also raise money to support activities of the College. The Principal of CoLANGE, Prof. Ephraim Avea Nsoh made this call when he opened a workshop on Grant Proposal writing on Tuesday, 26th June, 2018.

Prof. Avea Nsoh emphasised that not much was being done by the staff to seek funding from grants. A situation he noted had resulted in the College depending solely on students’ fees and support from government to fund its activities.

The workshop was organised by the management of CoLANGE for all Senior Members (Teaching and Non-teaching) of the College to educate participants on the need to source for funding to supplement Internally Generated Funds for conducting research and staff development. It was also held to equip staff with skills for effective grant proposal writing,   preparation of project budgets, identification of various sources of donor funding and other strategies for securing grants.

The workshop which was in three sessions saw presentations from two resource persons namely Mr. Samuel Nicholas Ayensu-Appiah and Mr. Enock Ebo Appiah.

The Grants and Projects Manager of Star Ghana, Mr. Samuel Ayensu-Appiah in his presentation bemoaned that having worked as a consultant to some donor organisations, few grant proposals were being received from educational institutions in Ghana for support.

He was however, of the conviction that universities and tertiary institutions for that matter were better positioned to present grant winning proposals to advance teaching and research. He indicated that, Star Ghana as a Donor was ready and willing to support social and civic society as well as institutions that wish to do any work consistent with their mission and vision.
