The University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho (UHAS) held its fourth Matriculation Ceremony for four hundred and fifty-one (451) freshmen and women who gained admission for the 2017/2018 Sandwich programme. The ceremony was held in the University’s SBBS Auditorium, Main Campus, Sokode-Lokoe, Ho.

Addressing the matriculants, Professor John Owusu Gyapong, Vice Chancellor of UHAS said out of seven hundred and nine (709) applications received, five hundred and fifty (550) were admitted and four hundred and fifty-one (451) enrolled for various undergraduate programmes.

He said as one of the youngest public universities in Ghana, UHAS students face a number of challenges including transportation. He assures the students that Management is working earnestly to ensure that such challenges will soon be a thing of the past.

Professor Gyapong while acknowledging the tremendous support the University currently receives from the Metro Mass Transit Services in tackling its transportation challenges also seized the opportunity to call on the business community to invest in the mission and vision of the University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho; the only university in Ghana wholly dedicated to the training of health professionals.

The Vice Chancellor urged the matriculants to wholeheartedly embrace the opportunities that UHAS presents. He called on them to achieve excellence by developing critical thinking skills and have the right balance between their academic and social lives.

He concluded by cautioning the freshmen and women to adhere to the rules and regulations of the University community and particularly admonished them against examination malpractice.

The Registrar, Dr. Cynthia Sena Kpeglo who administered the Matriculation Oath, congratulated the students and also advised them to be disciplined Junior Members of UHAS.

Miss Benedicta Akpene Hehemeku, a level 100 Bachelor of Midwifery student delivered a message on behalf of the matriculants. She among other things promised that the 2018 Sandwich Cohort will do everything possible to always raise the UHAS banner high.

The matriculation ceremony was attended by officials of the University including the Acting Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Seth Owusu-Agyei, Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments and other members of Convocation. A number of parents, guardians and other relatives of the matriculants also witnessed the ceremony
