2018 ORIENTATION PROGRAMME FOR NEWLY RECRUITED STAFF OF UENR

The Human Resource Division of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) has organized an orientation for the newly recruited Senior Members, Senior and Junior staff. The programme which was held on different days for each category of the staff, sought to give in-depth information about the University to the staff of their core responsibilities, conditions of service, code of conduct and other government policies guiding the University.

The Vice-Chancellor of UENR, Professor Harrison Dapaah in an opening remarks said the University has seen enormous growth in academic, human resource and infrastructural development. He added that UENR has developed a 10-year strategic plan that inculcated various ways to help the University realize its Vision and Mission. Prof. Dapaah emphasized that the staff should learn to build teamwork at their various departments.

Speaking to the Senior Members, the Vice-Chancellor urged them to address their concerns through the laid down channel of communication in the University. He stated “your views and ideas are welcome since UENR is an academic institution everyone has the right to speak”. He further advised the Senior Members to discharge their duties with due diligence and integrity in line with the Vision and Mission of the University.

On the side of the Senior Staff, the Vice-Chancellor made it known to them that, the University operates with statutes, strategic plan and government policies. He cautioned the staff saying “we don’t just operate in a vacuum and so make sure you don’t violate any of these rules guiding the University”. He admonished them to read more about the University adding that, in order to make a better UENR, it was necessary to maintain harmonious human and industrial relations by respecting one another. Prof. Dapaah also encouraged them to be creative and take initiatives “you are the bridge between Junior and Senior members, with hard work you can rise from the middle level to senior membership” he said. The Vice-Chancellor counselled the participants to have a good attitude toward work, urging them to avoid lateness, absenteeism, mediocrity. He assured that no staff rights would be violated or victimized.

The Ag. Registrar, Mr. Ben Appiah Kubi took turn to brief participants on the History of UENR and its achievements, Governance system in the University and specific roles of staff. Again the participants were also educated on the conditions of service, probation, confirmation and promotion of each category of staff by the Senior Assistant Registrar of the Human Resource Division, Mr. Alfred O. Appiah.
