Primary Health Care Institute Admission 2020 – 2021

PHCI-Iringa (Primary Health Care Institute Iringa) was established by the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in 1990. The overall objective of the institute was to conduct capacity building to health personnel nationally and internationally. The core functions of PHCI-I are firstly, to act as a Zonal Health Resource Centre for the Southern Highlandszone serving three regions namely Iringa, Njombe, and Ruvuma. Secondly, to administer short and long multidisciplinary health training programmes.The Institute has embarked on developing different health training programmes ranging from technical skills in the fields of clinical medicine, nursing and health promotion to district health management. The intention is to respond to the increasing demand of competent health professionals to match with the increasing national and global health challenges; changes in science and technology, patterns of diseases; lifestyles and social economic milieu.The essence of establishing a multidisciplinary health training programmes is hinged on both local and global policies, strategies and health promotion needs. These include the National Health Policy, the Primary Health Services Development Programme (PHSDP) popularly known as MMAM, Human Resource for Health Strategic Plan 2007-2012, Health Sector Strategic Plan III (2007-2013), National Strategy for Growth and Reduction of Poverty (NSGRP) popularly known as MKUKUTA, the Tanzania Development Vision 2025 and Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) – 2000.In order to match with national and global transformations of providing demand driven training programmes, the institute has designed all its programmes to competence based trainings under National Technical Awards (NTA) system.

Ordinary diploma in Clinical medicine

The Ordinary Diploma in Clinical Medicine is a three years programme, which has been developed to suit the needs of Government’s commitment to improve health care provision, labour market demands, legal and professional needs that exist in our country. It is one of the initiatives done by the Government to modernize qualifications within the health sector and optimize transferability within and across sectors and disciplines.It is, therefore, expected that the graduates from this programme will have aspirations to become full professionals. The programme is a modular system and will operate under semester structure. This will facilitate a large degree of flexibility for the graduates’ future development

Ordinary diploma in Nursing

This programme is geared towards producing innovative, creative and flexible nurses who will cope with the dynamic changes of the profession, technology and socio-economic needs. It is, therefore, expected that the graduates from this level will have aspirations to pursue higher qualifications in nursing profession. The programme adopts a modular system and will operate under semester structure. This will facilitate a large degree of flexibility for recognition of learning experiences and professional practice for the graduates’ future development.
