Underground Mining Alliance Ltd (UMA) is located in Accra, Ghana, and is part of the Oil & Gas Field Services Industry. Available Underground Mining Alliance Ltd Application 2024 Positions & Details

Job Title: Jumbo Drill Operators

Key Responsibilities

  • The incumbent shall report directly to the Shift Supervisor and operates a twin boom jumbo drilling rig for underground development mining with installation of ground support.
  • Ensure work area is safe for personnel and equipment to perform working duties including ensuring electrical installations and services are clear of the drilling area.
  • Accurately drill a number of drill patterns using a mechanized electric hydraulic Jumbo drill suitable to ground conditions and in compliance with site specific drill patterns and survey instruction.
  • Assess ground conditions at the face and implement ground control as per site requirements.
  • Read and follow accurately mining instruction plan with skill and precision ensuring holes are drilled to design line, gradient and profile.
  • Comply with relevant Mines Safety and Inspection Acts and Regulations
  • Optimize drill patterns to ensure maximum advance per round is achieved whilst maintaining strict adherence to design specifications with minimal overbreak.

Required Skills/Experience

  • Minimum of 8 to 12 years’ experience of a Frontline Jumbo, Sandvik experience preferred;
  • Ability to Bolt, Mesh and Bore a minimum of 3 Development headings per 12-hour shift;
  • Minimum 800 drill metres/man shift;
  • Previous experience in Portal establishment preferable;
  • Must be conversant with the Mining Act and related regulations of the Republic of Ghana.
  • Must possess a valid Ghanaian driving and operating licenses (C & E Classes) and can drive underground.
  • Previous experience working in Hard Rock Underground Mines (with International Underground Mining experience);
  • Sound knowledge of Underground Mining Practice across most positions and the efficient operations of an Underground Jumbo;
  • Sound mechanical knowledge of a Sandvik DD 421-60, DD 422I, DD 421-60, and DD 421 Jumbo Drill;
  •  Ability to work autonomously/independently with limited supervision;
  • Demonstrated abilities to work within a team environment with leadership abilities;
  • A strong focus toward safety and hazard identification;
  • Must demonstrate strong work ethics and be able to communicate courteously with co-workers;
  • Ability to work under pressure and have the desire to achieve;
  • Ability to work day and night rotation;

Job Title: Underground Shift Supervisor (Shift Boss)

Key Responsibilities

  • To monitor equipment availability and utilization, and assess production priorities based on these factors.
  • To assist Mine Foremen to answer queries and handle requests related to mine operations, including problem solving and judgment.
  • To provide, in conjunction with the Mine Foremen and Environment, Health, Safety and Training Advisor, assessment of safety and performance outcomes
  • To be the go-to expert in the mine on all aspects of development drilling, production drilling, charging and blasting, hauling systems and methodologies.
  • To discuss short-range mine plans with Mine Foreman and Planning Engineers to ensure plans are realistic and achievable.
  • To be responsible for the assessment of all activities and processes related to mine operations.
  • To assist in preparing reports and completing documentations related to Mine Operations.
  • To participate in the development of applicable Standard Operating Procedures.
  • To ensure that a safe working environment is maintained at all times and that all work is carried out in line with the company’s safety, health and environmental policies.
  • To perform any other related duties assigned from time to time by his supervisor.

Required Skills/Experience

  • Should be a Mining Engineer or long service Miner who has passed through all requirements and has a Shift Boss Certificate of Competency issued by the Inspectorate Division of Minerals Commission-Ghana;
  • 7 years of underground mining experience in development operations including face management, ventilation circuits and services with at least 5 years of hands-on exposure in a similar position;
  • Should have comprehensive knowledge in the Mine Regulations
  • Conversant with the use of MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • A training the trainers or supervisory certificate of competency.
  • Should have an appreciable knowledge of operations of all underground machines
  • Effective budgeting, planning and scheduling skills for both production and projects;
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills;
  • Effective management skills and ability to train and mentor others;
  • Willing to work extended hours to meet tight deadlines;
  • Effective communication skills both written and oral;
  • Flexible rotations, including night shift, if critical circumstances need attention;
  • High regard for safe work practices and procedures;
  • Must possess a valid Ghanaian driving and operating licenses (C & E Classes) and can drive underground.

Job Title: Bogger Operator, Manual & Remote

Key Responsibilities

  • The Underground Remote Bogger Operator shall report directly to the Underground Shift Supervisor and the primary role is to bog all development and production headings, load trucks and maintain road works with the operations in a safe and efficient manner for underground mining.
  • Bog development headings and stockpiles to trucks;
  • Keep trucks operating at full efficiency ensuring all ore, low grade, marginal and waste are kept separate;
  • Bog out and clean, which may include inspecting for mis-fires including notification to shift supervisor, hosing down and scaling;
  • Tram material from stockpiles and other bogging duties as required;
  • Backfilling Stopes with Rockfill, Cement Aggregate Fill (CAF) and Cement Rock Fill (CRF);
  • Keep all roads in working area tidy and free from pooling water and other potential hazards;
  • Manual and tele-remote bogging of production stopes to stockpiles.
  • Sound mechanical knowledge of Boggers and Trucks

Required Skills or Experience

  • Minimum of 5 (Five) years’ Underground experience in Hard Rock mining in a mechanized mine operating Underground Haulage equipment.
  • Experience with Sandvik LH517I, LH621, LH517 and LH514 Boggers in tele-remote bogging in underground mining industry is an added advantage.
  • Backfilling Stopes with Rockfill, Cement Aggregate Fill (CAF) and Cement Rock Fill (CRF);
  • Bogging rates of minimum Company parameters of Ton/hour Manual Bogging and 65 Ton/Hour Tele-Remote Bogging;
  • Must possess a valid Ghanaian driving and operating licenses (C & E Classes) and can drive underground.
  • Flexibility and willingness to assist with varied tasks and responsibilities
  • Solid history in and Underground Mining Operations.
  • Must demonstrate strong work ethics and be able to communicate courteously with co-workers.
  • Must possess Equipment Operator’s certification from the Minerals Commission
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Ability to work under pressure and have the desire to achieve.
  • Ability to workday and night rotation.
