DEFENCE MANAGEMENT COURSE

AIM:
The aim of the module is to expose uniform and civilian personnel working within the security sector to the issues, principles and techniques relevant to improving the governance and management of the defence and security sectors.

OBJECTIVES:
The objectives of the module are:

  1. To familiarize students with the domestic framework within which security and defence are both managed and delivered.
  2. To enable civil servants and military officers to locate defence within the wider context of national and regional security.
  3. To facilitate among participants an understanding of the need for co-operation and coordination within the Ghanaian security sector and the wider benefits that this approach will deliver.
  4. To familiarize participants with the need for the political direction of defence and methods of its application.
  5. To enable civil servants and military officers to appreciate each other’s roles and the legitimate roles of others within security and defence.
  6. To introduce principles and practices for the effective management of the defence sector.
  7. To demonstrate the relevance of management topics to the participants’ role/position within their respective organisations.
  8. To develop an awareness of the inter-relationship between the various aspects of defence and security management.
  9. To provide participants with a greater understanding of the principles of change management.
  10. To provide participants with the opportunity to apply the strategic management tools to which they have been introduced.

Course participants
The course comprising of GAFCSC students and external participants from various security services and ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs).  The course is aimed at middle management personnel who will be involved with inter-departmental co-ordination.  Vacancies allocated to external participants are as follows:

CONFLICT AND CRISIS MANAGEMENT COURSE

AIM:
The aim of the course is to provide participants with a clear understanding of conflict and internal crisis management in order that they can work more effectively, efficiently and cohesively.  To achieve this, the course objectives are:

OBJECTIVES:

  • To Develop an understanding of:
    1. Conflict and Crisis Management.
    2. Threats to national safety and security (both natural and man-made).
    3.  Human, Ethical and moral dimensions of conflict and crisis management.
    4.  Key organisations involved in conflict and crisis management.
    5. Conflict and internal crisis management techniques.
  •  Practise conflict and crisis management in simulation exercises.
  • Create and reinforce links between personnel and agencies.
  • Examine opportunities for future joint training and education in conflict and crisis management. Create and develop professional linkages between institutions.

Course Participants
The course comprising of GAFCSC students and external participants from various institutions, including uniformed and emergency Services.  The course is aimed at senior and middle management personnel who will be involved with inter-departmental co-ordination during conflict and crisis management situations.  These participants include the following:

EXCLUSIVE ECONOMIC ZONE (EEZ) MANAGEMENT AND OPERATIONS COURSE

AIM OF THE COURSE

The aim of the course is to provide participants with background knowledge required by professional maritime practitioners and affiliates, as well as other important decision makers in EEZ management and operations with a view to enabling a better understanding of the issues involved.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

 The EEZ package is expected to achieve the following:

  1. Create awareness among stakeholders about the enormity of the resource potential and the requirements for monitoring, control and surveillance of the EEZ.
  2.  Identify the capabilities required to manage the EEZ (including surveillance, response, and regulation of activities within the EEZ).
  3. Identify and define the roles and capabilities of the various stakeholders in the effective and efficient management of the EEZ.
  4. Enable all stakeholders to appreciate the magnitude of each other’s contribution towards the management of the resources within the country’s EEZ.
  5. Develop mechanisms to harness the collaborative efforts of stakeholders to support the training and financing of the operations involved in the management of the EEZ.
  6. Develop a comprehensive EEZ Management Organization for a more constructive management regime.
