What is BSc Land Economy ?

The study of economics, law in relation to the environment is the main course in land economy. The Department has a mix of skills and interests that make it an attractive and challenging environment in which to apply. The DOLE is the main teaching and training unit for B.Sc. students in Land Economy.

KNUST Bachelor BSc Land Economy Entry Requirement

WASSCE/SSSCE APPLICANTS

(a) Credit passes in THREE (3) Elective Subjects including Economics, Geography and a third subject relevant to the Land Economy Programme, preferably Accounting, Business Management, Government, Business Mathematics, French, Literature in English, History, Building Construction, Technical Drawing and Mathematics.
(b) Credit passes in THREE (3) elective subjects including Economics, and two (2) other subjects from the following: Elective Mathematics, Geography, Accounting, Business Management, Business Mathematics, Government, French, Building Construction, Technical Drawing, and General Knowledge in Art.

A’ LEVEL APPLICANTS


FIVE (5) credits at the O’ Level including English Language and Mathematics, plus THREE (3) A’ Level passes, two of which shall be Economics and Geography, at a grade not below C. Preference will be given to a third A’ Level pass in Mathematics, Government or History. Candidates must also pass the General Paper.
OR
Diploma in Estate Management holders with at least FIVE (5) credits at O’ Level including: English and Mathematics.

MATURE APPLICANTS
Applicants should be at least 25 years at the time of submitting the application.
EITHER
FIVE (5) credits at the O’ Level including English Language and Mathematics.
OR
WASSCE/SSSCE credits passes in THREE (3) Elective Subjects including Economics and Geography OR should hold a Diploma/HND in Estate Management. In the case of Diploma holders, THREE (3) years working experience, irrespective of age, may be required.
OR

DIPLOMA HOLDERS:
Candidates with the Ordinary National Diploma (OND) or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Estate Management or other relevant Diploma qualification from a recognized University or Polytechnic with Cumulative Weighted Average (CWA) of 70% and above after a successful interview would be admitted into the second year of the Programme. Other Diploma holders with less than 70% as their CWA would be required to have three years’ work experience in the real estate industry and in addition pass an interview to be admitted into first year of the Programme.

Career Opportunities For BSc Land Economy

There is no single path or rigid career track for students studying Land Economy. It is a course for those who value the opportunities that a multidisciplinary degree can bring. Graduates go on to be lawyers, economists, civil servants or to work for international or national agencies. Many go into financial, business or management careers, and others enter public service with local or national organisations.

There are land economy graduates working in the international money markets and for environmental protection agencies; for city law firms and for the Countryside Agency; in property management and for chartered surveyors and town planners. Some graduates proceed to further education and research. Some continue into one of the Department′s one-year MPhil programmes, whilst others move on to become professors at other universities.
