What is MSc/MPhil Development Studies ? 

Development studies is a multidisciplinary subject that focuses on the evolution of nations from political, cultural, geographical, and socio-economic perspectives. MSc/MPhil Development Studies are of Two (2) Calendar Years and (Part-Time) Three (3) Calendar Years duration.

KNUST MSc/MPhil Development Studies Entry Requirement

a. All applicants admitted are initially enrolled in the MSc
Programmes. After twelve (12) calendar months, students who pass
all the required courses will be awarded a Master of Science degree.
Those who obtain CWA of 70 or more at the end of first year may
progress as MPhil candidates for the second year. Such candidates
would spend the academic year writing their theses and will be
expected to complete the programme by the end of the second year.


b. All applicants must pass selection interviews before gaining
admission.


c. Applicants for MSc/MPhil Development Studies must have
obtained First Class or Second Class Undergraduate degree in the
following academic backgrounds from reputable institutions:
Planning, Development Studies, Integrated Development Studies,
Geography, Environmental Studies, Social Studies, Sociology, Land
Economy, Agriculture, Renewable Natural Resources, Economics,
Civil Engineering, Business and Public Administration, and other
relevant programmes


d. In addition, applicants must have written a thesis on contemporary
planning issues at the undergraduate level. Applicants who did not
write thesis at the undergraduate level and those who wrote group
projects may only be admitted under special circumstances.


e. Applicants for the MSc /MPhil Planning must have obtained First
Class Degrees or Second Class Undergraduate degree in Development Planning, Settlement Planning or any other related Planning degree from reputable institutions. Those whose degrees are not in Planning should not apply to the MSc/MPhil Planning programme.


f. Students enrolled in the MSc/MPhil programme are required to pay
WEEKEND fees approved by the University.
