New WAEC Ghana WASSCE Grading System: See Details Below

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) in Ghana has recently introduced a revamped grading system for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). As an essential assessment tool for students across the region, this update holds significant implications for both educational institutions and the students themselves.

The WAEC greatly contributes to education in that it has funds to support needy candidates with good performances to pursue their dream careers in universities. It is also known for having a strong committee since it was established in 1952.

As earlier mentioned, WAEC results are one of the prerequisites for gaining admission into higher institutions across West Africa. On that note, we will be showing you the full WACE grading system.

This guide is to enable the students to make a conscious effort that will guarantee them a good WAEC result and boost their chances of furthering their studies at the university level.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) introduced a new grading system for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in 2006. The new grading system is an eight-grade system, with A1 being the highest grade and F9 being the lowest grade. The grades are as follows:

A1 – Excellent (75-100%) A2 – Very Good (70-74%) B3 – Good (65-69%) C4 – Credit (60-64%) C5 – Credit (55-59%) C6 – Credit (50-54%) D7 – Pass (45-49%) E8 – Pass (40-44%) F9 – Fail (Below 40%)
